Guatemala / Huehuetenango
This coffee comes to us from the Asociation Union de Pequeños Caficultores (UPC) a cooperative of 164 members from the community of La Democracia situated in the mountainous region of Huehuetenango. UPC tend to their plants year-round, managing steep inclines that make caring for and harvesting a challenge. Over 10% of the co-op's production is certified organic and over 40% of their members are female.
The lot was grown at an altitude of 1,300-1,700 MASL and is a washed Pacamara micro-lot.
We attained this mirco-lot through our growing relationship with De La Gente. DLG strives to create economic opportunities for over 250 small-holder farmers in Guatemala. DLG paid a 43.7% premium over street price for this coffee. DLG and their generous donors were able to finance a specialized de-pulper for the production of this coffee.
We get fruity notes of cherry, blackberry and stone fruit over cacao and cedar. The coffee is smooth, round and syrupy. Enjoy!
