Repetition Coffee • Our Story
We are Ryan and Amy Pope, two Kansas natives with a passion for coffee. After much travel abroad we wanted to bring our love for coffee and its culture back to the place we call home — Lawrence. Out of this desire, Repetition Coffee was born.
After meeting and marrying in Lawrence, we moved to Paris in 2011. Amy attended grad school while Ryan sunk his teeth into Paris’ budding specialty coffee scene, an industry we both had studied since 2008.
At the trendsetting La Caféothèque, we were taken under the wing of Gloria Montenegro. Working, learning, and sipping alongside Gloria and some of the world’s top baristas, we felt called to share our excitement back home.
We returned to Lawrence and to the Bourgeois Pig where we began roasting at home, fostering relationships with international suppliers and local connoisseurs. We spent months fine-tuning distinctive roast profiles and laid the groundwork for our ambitions beyond our one-car garage.
Today, we are please to bring you: Repetition Coffee, housed at 900 New Jersey. Here, we apply an ethos of sustainability and respect, global connections with growers, and refined yet adventurous palates to the work of making every single cup memorable.
