Colombia / AMACA

Regular price $14.00 Sale

This special offering comes to us from Asociación de Mujeres Productoras Agropecuarias del Cauca (AMACA), an association of women producers located in El Tambo municipality within the Cauca department of Colombia. Co-owner of Repetition, Amy Pope, visited AMACA in May 2018 and witnessed first-hand how coffee can serve as a vehicle for women’s empowerment and a pathway to peace.  We are pleased that Repetition’s relationship with AMACA has blossomed into a personal one and we are privileged to pass along their work and their story to you.

AMACA was established in 1999 by 80 women whose families had suffered as a result of the long lasting conflict in Colombia. These women specialize in coffee and a variety of other crops.  AMACA has grown to now have 208 active members.

AMACA has real impact on their community.  They advocate for: women’s ownership over land and resources, and leadership within their respective communities.

Following the 2016 Peace Treaty and widespread initiative to eliminate conflict in Cauca, institutions are looking to AMACA as an indicator of how coffee can be a viable and sustainable source of income while also supporting the peace process.

The coffee is grown at an altitude of 1,715-1,750 MASL in the plentiful jungles of Cauca.  It’s grown under canopies of banana trees, citrus fruits and alongside sugar cane and taro.  It’s a washed blend of Castillo and Colombia varieties.

We taste PAPAYA, FLORAL, and CHOCOLATE. This coffee has a smooth, round body that pairs perfectly with fruity acidity and floral notes. We applaud the women of AMACA for producing a lovely, succulent cup.

TASTING NOTES:  PAPAYA /// FLORAL /// CHOCOLATE
