Papua New Guinea / Sigri Estate
This coffee marks the beginning of a relationship with Benchmark Coffee Traders and is also our first coffee from Papua New Guinea. Benchmark Coffee Traders have direct family ties and support a strong social agenda that provides free housing, healthcare and education to coffee pickers and farmers. They work towards conservation and maintaining bird-friendly estate that is home to over 90 species of birds.
Sigri Estate is located in the Wahgi Valley in the Western Highland Province at an altitude of about 1,600 MASL. The coffees are grown in mineral-rich volcanic soil, and hand picked. Once picked the cherries undergo a rigorous washing process and then ferment for three days broken up by nightly dips in full-immersion tanks in order to balance flavors. The attention to detail at Sigri Estate is obvious with each brew.
We taste dried fruits, like prune and dried apricot. It has a citric, lemon-like acidy with a cacao aftertaste. The body is smooth and balanced.
