This coffee comes to us from the Songwe region of Tanzania's Southern Highlands zone. Songwe is well-known for being home to one of the world's largest meteorites, referred to by the locals as Kimondo; weighing in at nearly 16 metric tons! We can assure you that the coffee is out of this world as well!
Grown by smallholder farmers in Songwe, this specific offering is a crafted blend of peaberries, done by sorting through cherries 4-5 different washing stations to extract peaberries only.
The peaberry is a unique mutation during the growing process of a coffee plant. During fertilization, the coffee cherry will produce one seed instead of the usual two. The result is a small, often times dense seed. Because of this, the one seed absorbs most of the sugars in the coffee cherry resulting in a sweeter, more intense cup.
This offering from Tanzania is no exception and is very dynamic with sweet and tart flavors. We don’t feature coffees from Tanzania often, so grab a bag while you can!
