Mexico / CESMACH Women CO-OP

Regular price $15.00 Sale

In 2005, six women from the CESMACH cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico, organized to increase women’s participation in coffee production and leadership, eventually formalizing memberships and launching the Café Feminino label. This Women Producer program was established in 2011 to separate women’s coffee lots and pay a premium, funding community projects like vegetable gardens and women’s health initiatives, including cervical cancer screenings for over 500 women.

Today, CESMACH has 224 women members, some widows, landowners, or wives of emigrant workers, with representation on the co-op’s board of directors. Their work highlights not only empowerment in a traditionally patriarchal culture but also a commitment to quality coffee and environmental stewardship.  All  CESMACH farms are shade-grown in the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve located in the highlands of the Sierra Madre. It is an incredibly diverse forest reserve and contains Mesoamerica's largest continuous cloud forest.

This offering is certified Fair Trade Organic.
